The General Society of Mayflower Descendants was formed in Boston, MA in 1896. The California Society was chartered October 17, 1907, established in San Francisco as the first Western State society by pioneers drawn to the new land of opportunity created by the California Gold Rush.
In 1917, it was agreed that members within California could associate themselves as local chapters for social purposes. From the original vision to meet and celebrate our Pilgrim heritage in California, the society founded in San Francisco has expanded to a statewide community of now thirteen colonies.
In San Francisco we meet four times a year to remember our heritage, for social time, lunch and a program related to personalities, events or items of Pilgrim or California historical interest. We hold joint meetings with other colonies within the Bay Area, including our important Compact Day each November. If you have a Mayflower heritage or interest, we welcome you.
